Can Somebody Out There Tell me what in the world this says???

Have you noticed the Blogger News lately?  I hardly ever even look at it but I just happened to click on it.  I am very dense (as you already guessed) but  was this definately written by a lawyer that was paid by the word.  I haven't any idea if this means we will no longer have blog access after March 10th?  I have received some messages saying they are losing their followers since changing their blog.  I pray this does not mean I will loose all of you during this transition!!  I NEED you gals and would hate to have anything interrupt our lovely groups.  Can someone tell me what this means?
My husband has read it and he didn't understand what my blogging buddies, followers, links, etc. were about even though he is pretty computer literate (unlike his wife).
I am concerned!

"Important Note to FTP Users

January 22, 2010 — permalink

Last May, we discussed a number of challenges facing Blogger users who relied on FTP to publish their blogs. FTP remains a significant drain on our ability to improve Blogger: only .5% of active blogs are published via FTP — yet the percentage of our engineering resources devoted to supporting FTP vastly exceeds that. On top of this, critical infrastructure that our FTP support relies on at Google will soon become unavailable, which would require that we completely rewrite the code that handles our FTP processing.

Three years ago we launched Custom Domains to give users the simplicity of Blogger, the scalability of Google hosting, and the flexibility of hosting your blog at your own URL. Last year's post discussed the advantages of custom domains over FTP and addressed a number of reasons users have continued to use FTP publishing. (If you're interested in reading more about Custom Domains, our Help Center has a good overview of how to use them on your blog.) In evaluating the investment needed to continue supporting FTP, we have decided that we could not justify diverting further engineering resources away from building new features for all users.

For that reason, we are announcing today that we will no longer support FTP publishing in Blogger after March 26, 2010. We realize that this will not necessarily be welcome news for some users, and we are committed to making the transition as seamless as possible. To that end:

We are building a migration tool that will walk users through a migration from their current URL to a Blogger-managed URL (either a Custom Domain or a Blogspot URL) that will be available to all users the week of February 22. This tool will handle redirecting traffic from the old URL to the new URL, and will handle the vast majority of situations.

We will be providing a dedicated blog and help documentation to provide as much information as possible to help guide users through the migration off of FTP.

Blogger team members will also be available to answer questions on the forum, comments on the blog, and in a few scheduled conference calls once the tool is released."

I know somebody out there knows the correct answers and interpetation of this.  Please explain in terms even I can understand.  Thank you so much!!!
Sharon
p.s.  Does anyone know where the
spell check
went to on the "compose posts"?

Oh my goodness I have no idea what this means! Will we loose all our old posts - everything just kaput?

Hopefully we are just reading it wrong. For now I am going to go back to working on my little baskets- they are something I do understand and enjoy!!

I leave again and am wanting to get some done on these cute little things! Do you know if the 5 items have to all fit in the basket? I don't think mine will- I was thinking Rhae was just limiting it to 5 items plus the basket but now I am wondering if I am wrong.

Hi Sharon...
Don't fret , I don't believe blogger will leave you out on a limb with out walking you through a way to convert over.

Sounds like they are making plans to help everyone make the change over as easy as possible.

Take your time...go to the sites they offer for explaination and ask questions.

If you lost your followers...I'd be very surprised...

You'll have it all figured out soon.

OK, if you use Front Page Express or the like to publish your Blog to the internet via FTP (file transfer protocol) uploading, instead of going through the 'Blogger interface' (which is the normal way you write a blog,) this will effect how you publish in future. FTP just uses too much resource, so, since it's a free service, Google have decided to drop that means of publishing, and want people to now rely on their 'standard' means of writing and publishing a Blog.

If you haven't a clue what I just said... then it obviously does NOT affect you nor will it in the future. So, no worries!

Warm hugs and quiches from Kitty

Hello Sharon: Here is the short explanation:

If you are using blogger and your blog url looks like this:
abc.blogspot.com

Or If you had bought only name (also called domain name) to make your blog url look abc.com from the abc.blogspot.com provided by the blogger.

In both cases you are NOT an FTP user. YOU ARE FINE AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR BLOG AS YOU FALL UNDER THE FIRST EXAMPLE.

Those bloggers who don’t come under the above two categories are the FTP users. And the information in this write-up is for them. (I work with very bright individuals in the communications field who answered this for me. Sea Witch

Have a great day. Sea Witch

Hello again. After I left my first answer to your question, I realized I probably didn't clarify it enough. In a nutshell, there is a small population of bloggers who still utilize FTP (File transfer protocol) to load their blogs. These are mostly early bloggers or folks who like to build their own structures without the sponsors like blogspot or typepad. Blogspot and typepad setup the basic structures and host them which makes our creativity pretty easy. All we have to worry about is what we want to say, what photos we want to upload and leave the rest of the setup to them. Hope this makes my first explanation more understanding. Sea Witch

well, i am not a lot better than you at understanding what this means but since it says "only .5% of active blogs are published via FTP", at least, the chance that you are one of those is low. if you go to your dashboard and you see this message...
"FTP publishing will no longer be available after May 1, 2010. You currently have blogs that are published using FTP. You must migrate your blogs to a new custom domain URL or a blogspot URL. To learn more, see our dedicated blog and help documentation. Start migration now"
...then i guess you have to do the migration thing. if not, i doubt whether they will just change things without informing the users. (i saw this message in the dashboard for an old blog of my husband which he was trying to publish on his website, not on blogspot)

besides your URL is a blogspot URL so i guess you are safe (but don't take my word for it, as i said, i don't know what it means either)

hope this helps, even just a little.

Good morning Sharon
I too saw and read most of this but being the kind of person that I am I did not think much about it since it was over my head anyway. In my thoughts while I was reading it I thought it did not apply to me anyway because of the way we do our blogs. Now don't ask me to explain what I just said..hahaha
Quit worrying about it...I think we are fine...if not I still have your email address so I won't have totally lost you..just kidding..seriously I hope I am right but if you hear anything different just let me know so I can worry too.
Love you
Maggie

Yikes Sharon, I was worried for a minute, glad we have some uber smart techy friends who know what's going on! Wow, I hate it that a snowstorm messed up some fun down here, I would have loved to have met you for lunch or coffee! Maybe next time you head this way you can make it. Hope all is well.
hugs and blessings,

Hi Sharon, I don't understand one word of this. I sure hope it won't affect our blogs at all. That would be just awful!

Here is what it sounds like to me--IF you publish your post in FTP then you won't be able to any longer. You will have to make a change.
Google has so many quirks. I LOVE WOrdpress and I am so glad I left. They cause havoc on blogs. Did you know the head guy form Google blogs through WordPRess--he doesn't even use his own product.

its to do with their server and independent bloggers who have their own 'domain' bought sites...

when they attach them to blogger it uses up more space..
so blogger have now offered 'domains' or 'address' the bit in the address bar...so is more efficient to load etc...
